Terms and Conditions

1. Who operates Polyglotle

Polyglotle (the “Site”, the “Service”, “we”, “us”) is operated by an individual trading as Adaptica (“Operator”). These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Site, including the daily word-guessing game, associated accounts, premium subscriptions, and any related features.

By creating an account or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or use the Site. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this age requirement. We do not currently verify age at sign-up beyond this confirmation, so do not use the Site, and do not permit a child under 16 to use the Site, if this requirement is not met.

3. Accounts

Accounts are created by signing in through a supported third-party provider (currently Google or Facebook). We do not issue or store passwords ourselves — authentication is handled by the provider you choose.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of the third-party account you use to sign in, and for all activity that occurs under your Polyglotle account.
You may hold one Polyglotle account per person. We may suspend or terminate accounts used to circumvent this, or used for any purpose that breaches these Terms.
You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time from your account settings, or by contacting us at [email protected]. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Some information may be retained where we are required or permitted to do so by law (for example, payment and tax records — see the Privacy Policy).

4. The Service

Polyglotle provides a daily word-guessing game across multiple languages, a game archive, streak tracking, gameplay statistics, and optional premium features. We may add, change, or remove features, languages, word lists, or game modes at any time without prior notice, and we do not guarantee that any particular feature will remain available.

We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation of the Site. The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis (see Section 9).

5. Premium subscriptions and payments

Certain features (“Premium”) require a paid, recurring subscription, billed monthly or annually depending on the plan you choose.
Subscription payments are processed by our third-party payment processor, Paystack. We do not receive or store your full card number, CVV, or other raw payment instrument details — see the Privacy Policy for what we do retain.
Pricing and currency are determined by your region at the time you subscribe (inferred from your network location) and are shown to you before you complete checkout. If you already have subscription history, your original pricing region continues to apply even if you later access the Site from a different location.
Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price for your plan, until you cancel.
Cancellation. You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals, but your current paid period continues to run until its end date — Premium access is not removed immediately on cancellation.
No refunds. Except where required by applicable law, payments already made are non-refundable, including for partial billing periods, unused time, or early cancellation.
Failed or declined payments. If a renewal payment fails or is declined, Premium access may be suspended and will resume once a successful payment is confirmed by our payment processor. We do not manually reconcile or restore access outside of this process.
We may change subscription prices going forward. Where required, we will give notice before a price change takes effect on your next renewal.

6. In-app currency

The Site may award an in-app virtual currency (for example, as a reward for reporting a problem) that can be spent on in-game items. This virtual currency:

has no real-world monetary value and cannot be exchanged for cash;
is not transferable between accounts and cannot be sold or traded;
may be adjusted, reset, or removed by us at any time, including on account termination or deletion.

7. Problem reports and user submissions

If you submit a problem report, feedback, or other content through the Site, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use that content to investigate, resolve, and improve the Service. Do not submit content that is unlawful, infringes another person's rights, or contains personal information about someone other than yourself. We may review, act on, reward, or disregard any submission at our discretion.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

use automated tools, scripts, or bots to play the game, submit guesses, or interact with the Site;
attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, or gain unauthorised access to the Site, its word lists, or its underlying systems;
interfere with the operation of the Site or other players' use of it;
use the Site for any unlawful purpose.

We may suspend or terminate access for any account that breaches this section.

9. Disclaimers

The Site is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that word definitions and content sourced from third parties are complete or accurate.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, goodwill, or profits, arising from your use of or inability to use the Site. Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these Terms or the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in subscription fees in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

11. Intellectual property

The Site's design, branding, software, and compiled word lists and definitions (except where sourced from and attributed to third-party providers) are owned by or licensed to the Operator and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from the Site except as necessary for your personal, non-commercial use of the game.

12. Third-party services

The Site relies on third-party services to operate, including sign-in providers (Google, Facebook), a payment processor (Paystack), infrastructure/network services (including Cloudflare), and an error-monitoring service (Sentry). Your use of these integrations is also subject to each provider's own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of these third-party providers.

13. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Site at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms. You may stop using the Site and delete your account at any time as described in Section 3.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify active users (for example, via an in-app notice) before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of South Africa, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa.
